This weekend Cawcus public talks programme kicks off at Letters And Numbers, with a selection of lectures, discussions, comics readings and artist presentations💥 Schedule for Saturday, June 27th: ⛰️ We kick off at 14.30 with a lecture from narratologist Alexandra Bazhenova-Sorokina on the history of Censorship In Comics. Comics are a medium that easily falls into government’s disgrace, but is not easy to silence. The talk will discuss the following situation in Russian comic censorship and compare and contrast it to analogous situations in the history of the US and Spain. ⛰️ At 16.00, two of our visiting artists, Sari Szanto and Paburik (currently exhibiting their work at :DDD Kunst House and Garage Ara respectively) will show examples of their visual storytelling, and then engage in a broader discussion with Arpi Balyan from Yerevan’s Fem Library about their experiences working in Queer Zines Scenes in Russia, Hungary and Armenia. ⛰️ At 17.30, Christopher Rainbow will present the Risograph comics press Sputnikat, and with fellow artists Rafael Zaiats, Sasha Deyeva and Sari Szanto, will perform a live reading of Neptune’s Palace, their 2026 comics jam, a collaborative storytelling project between 32 cartoonists.
